This position is funded through Citizenship and Immigration Canada and is part of the Immigrant Services Team at KEYS.
The primary purpose of the Immigrant Employment Specialist is to provide comprehensive employment-focused needs assessment, referral and case management services, and deliver the Job Search Workshop for newcomers to Canada with the goal of providing newcomers with the knowledge and skills to better understand the strategies, business perspective and next steps in their job search process.
As an active front-line member of the Immigrant Services Team, the Immigrant Employment Specialist will meet one-to-one and in group settings with clients and assist them to develop a job readiness plan, potentially including training or formal credential recognition, and to attain their employment and professional goals. This will involve career exploration and goal identification, labour market orientation, community referrals, job search coaching and resume development with clients.
S/he will also be responsible for remaining current on labour market information, sector specific accreditation, credential assessment services, bridging programs, English language programs, educational opportunities and other community services. S/he will effectively maintain case loads and meet all activities and targets of the designated program area(s). In addition, the Immigrant Employment Specialist will refer clients to and support the KEYS Professional Mentoring Partnership Program and provide knowledge and research support relating to immigrant needs and issues to other employment counsellors.

Main location 182 Sydenham Street Kingston and all other KEYS offices
Minimum Requirements / Work Experience:
a. Minimum of 3 years post-secondary, preferably in a related field.
b. Minimum of 2 years professional experience in information and referral, counseling/advising, case management, and/or employment field with adults.
c. Demonstrated understanding of marginalized groups; labour market; local employer base; social services and education institutions in the Kingston area.
d. Experience in delivering workshops and strong facilitation practices.
e. Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
f. Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, diverse environment with co-workers, clients and partners.
g. Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which includes: productivity/personal responsibility; customer centred service; collaborative team performance; entrepreneurial attitude and maintaining a high level of professionalism.
h. Strong presentation/facilitation skills; high comfort level in public arenas.
i. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; communicate effectively in a cross-cultural context and with individuals in their second language (i.e. Non native English speakers)
j. Proficiency in an additional language(s), Mandarin, French or Spanish in particular, will be considered a strong asset.
