Job Description:

10 week Temporary Position (June - August)

Position Summary

The primary objective of the VIP Facilitator is to carry out the activities associated with providing youth between the ages of 13 and 24 with a meaningful volunteer work experience.  The program is targeted at youth who are attending local high schools, but will not exclude those who are not connected to the school system.  There is a primary focus on assisting immigrant and refugee youth.  As a member of the Student Services Team, the VIP Facilitator is also responsible for supporting the SJFY program when required. 

- Ability to facilitate workshops and group sessions in a positive and dynamic manner b.     - Ability to support students with their job search in a supportive, solution-focused manner - Experience working with youth in a teaching or counselling capacity

-Understand the high school system; credit recovery and co-operative education system

-Experience organizing and promoting events, including managing an event budget

- Comfort and familiarity with the use of various social media as outreach and marketing tools

- Good understanding of the local labour market and the challenges facing the unemployed - Ability to promote confidentiality as a norm

- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment

- Must treat all individuals with equal respect and interact in a tactful, supportive, professional manner

- Ability to advocate to employers and other service providers, on behalf of individuals requiring assistance with their job search

- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment

- Ability to promote confidentiality as a norm

- Proficiency with computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office


Work Site Location:
a. Employment Resource Centre/Shared Office setting with occasional travel to off-site locations within the KEYS catchment area; employment site visits b. Professional appearance is required; casual business attire. c. 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8.3
Minimum Requirements / Work Experience:
a. Must meet the eligibility requirements of Canada Summer Jobs Program:: must be a student returning to school in September 2013, who is 29 years old or younger
b. Currently enrolled in post-secondary education preferably in Education or Social Work or combination of education and relevant work/volunteer experience
c. Experience working with disadvantaged youth, employers, schools and youth services.
d. Sound knowledge of all facets of job search and career development including current labour market trends
e. Excellent communication skills: verbal and written
f. Strong, confident presentation/facilitation skills
g. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with ACCESS data bases and Excel
h. Proficiency in English. French is considered an asset
i. Must possess a valid driver\'s licence and access to a reliable vehicle would be a definite asset.
