At Kingston 1000 Island Cruises our theme is Food, Fun and Entertainment Ships! We offer the widest variety of cruises in the Thousand Islands including sightseeing, lunch, dinner and many forms of public and private special events. Our mission is to provide the finest in hospitality services in Eastern Ontario.
We have a new companion for 2013 with the introduction of Kingston Trolley Tours. The trolley service will encourage visitors to explore, engage and enjoy Canada’s First Capital and the many attractions Kingston has to offer. The trolley will also provide synergies with our cruises in the form of packaging and innovative opportunities with our guests and tourism partners.
Our cruise and trolley are located downtown Kingston, surrounded by unique historic limestone buildings, lively outdoor cafes and pubs, outdoor farmers markets and a picturesque Confederation Park.
The uniqueness of our program begins with our three ships and thematic trolley. Our operational season begins in May and runs until October. Through the season we employ approximately 75 staff ranging from Reservation and Sales support, Service Stewards, Galley Staff, Dock Supervision and Trolley Guides. At Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises and Trolley we offer an exciting and unique work environment.
At Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises we hire and cross train onboard service staff for the onboard roles of Server, Bartender and Canteen. This allows for maximum flexibility and a wide range of opportunities for our crew. Although crew are trained for all three positions, a crew member will only be focused on one of these tasks each shift.
Servers are front-line staff interacting with the guests for the majority of the cruise. Tasks include: dining set-up and clean-up, drink and dinner orders through Point of Sale (POS) system, team focused food service, collecting payments for beverage service.
Bartenders are responsible for preparing beverages for guests directly or via a server entering orders in the POS. Tasks include: proper opening and closing of the Bar including inventory tracking and ordering, following cleaning procedures, making drink orders efficiently, operating the POS system.
Canteen attendants operate an onboard café/canteen that provides food and beverage service to our guests. Tasks include: proper opening and closing of the canteen including inventory tracking and ordering, following cleaning procedures, operating the POS system, serving guests efficiently.
With all of our positions we strive to offer the highest level of customer service possible consistent with our mission.
All crew must understand the context of hospitality onboard ships and undergo marine orientation by the Ship’s Captain before their first shift. Heavy lifting is occasionally required.
Minimum Requirements / Work Experience:
We are looking for candidates that have the ability to work in a fast paced, service focused and ever changing environment. The best applicants will be well organized and adaptable. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and an overall positive outlook. A successful candidate will not only be a team player but will also have the ability to work well alone, without direct supervision.
No previous experience is necessary to apply, however, some experience in food & beverage service is an asset.
Bilingual candidates are preferred.
This is a seasonal position that requires a commitment through to October. Ability to work a flexible schedule is essential. Evening and night availability is required. Starting wages are above industry norms. There is a financial Bonus for completing the season, even if part time.
